Match 4.
Portu-Goal Scorers

P-GS vs. "Well we tried hard, and scored once - but the P-GS are just too good"

The P-GS are back. Although the scoreline could have read 10-0, some very positive things can be taken away from this match, and it seems the Scorers are on their way back to the top of the ladder.

The pre-game hype placed much pressure on the P-GS, who had suffered more defeats than victories since they burst onto the scene with an emphatic 10-2 win. The word seemed to be that there is no room for error, as anything other than a win would see it very hard to find a place in the finals.

With Sticka still missing, The P-GS enlisted the help of Michael Chin, who more than capably stepped in to plays goal keeper at late notice, making some fine reflex saves - and conceding one mere goal, through what can only be described as absimal defending. In the Scorers' defence though (no pun intended), they were up 4-0 at that stage with about 2 minutes on the clock, and were not intent in pushing themselves, to save from injury.

As the rain crashed down outside, similarly did it inside; with thunderous shots, lightning quick runs, and a downpour of ability. However, all these wonderful things were individual, and the Scorers will need to gel more as a team should they expect to hold the trophy. The half time discussion saw this point raised, and it will need to be done so again in the future. Mackay commented, "We all do it (hog the ball). I do because I get so excited when I do actually get the ball I want to make the most of it. If we passed more, everyone would have ample time on the ball and not need to hog it - otherwise it's a viscious circle: no one wants to pass because they don't get enough ball, but they're only not getting enough ball because no one passes." Certainly perplexing thoughts.

Mackay had a surprisingly good game, but can perhaps be attributed to the head clash he suffered early on in the game. This may have affected his brain function, causing him to do the highly unordinary - play okay. Opening up the scoring, as well as carving the opposition with a ball that set Kunz up for his Goal, he shocked onlookers. Lam also clinched one goal, his 4th for the season. Jang came out with the other 2 in a fine performance, putting him equal top of the goal count for this season. Julian and D'Silva worked extremely hard all game, D'Silva in particular covered an immense amount of ground, supplying the offense with brilliant balls, as well as defending hard. Julian more and more is fitting in with the team - and we expect big things to come.

All in all, a hard fought win - that would have been made easier with more team spirit. But no one is perfect, and this only gives the P-GS something to do at training sessions other than cashing their 7 figure pay cheques.

Next week, I am sure we will see a team hungry to perform not only individually - but as a team. Kunz has promised much work done on the tactical side of things, and the implementation of this will benefit the team greatly for the tougher games to come.
