Mackay Injured
Portu-Goal Scorers

Good news ahead of the Scorers' clash with competition leaders, the Importz, with Mackay injured and out of the game

"Let's hope it's a serious injury"

With around 7 minutes left on the clock of a stellar P-GS performance, Mackay fell in 'incredible agony,' as the players were alerted to his injury by its accompanying screams and cries. He was stretchered off by the rest of the boys, who finished off the win 11-1, dedicating the performance to Paul's recovery.

Perhaps it was this incredible score line that encouraged the Granville Glory to step up their usual rough tactics, and start lashing out at the Scorers in frustration. Certainly this was the case of Mackay's injury, as after making a legitimate tackle, his right ankle was aimed at as if it were the ball - being connected with at the instep and forcing his foot to rotate outwards where no ankle is supposed to go. "The absolute shock at the initial impact was incredible. I was in so much pain; I had no idea what was going on. I am however disappointed in the (Granville) Glory for their behavior during, and then after the game. I expected an apology, but all I got was a half arsed effort to see if I was okay."

Indeed this kind of behavior needs to be looked at, or even the standard of refereeing at the centre. The culprit got off freely, no penalty or card, least of all a suspension that was probably deserved. After all, it is not nearly in the spirit of the game - and those playing do not expect to have to put up with it.

As a result, Paul faces weeks off, and is currently undergoing intensive physiotherapy from team doctors to nurture his ankle back to perfection. "Although the X-rays came back showing no fracture or break; ligament damage - either strain or tearing, seems apparent and it will be a while before he returns to the pitch."

His departure is well timed - as the P-GS face off against competition leaders, the Importz. This crunch match will prove a true test of character for the boys, but at least they will not have to put up with Paul's constant stuff ups, and feeble excuses for his terrible ability. Instead, he is replaced by veteran Turkish superstar, Nizamettin Yesilova. The team will benefit greatly from his skill and experience (on par with Kunz), as well as his street smart sense of play in which he remains strong and tough on the ball, controlling the game and dominating opposition.
