Match 6.
Portu-Goal Scorers

P-GS vs. "The Oblongs"

Make no mistake; this fixture was never going to be a highlight of the season, or a challenge to the boys. The score line sounds harsh, but it could have been much worse, as the Scorers showed great restraint to concentrate on improving tactical play rather than individual skill to score. This will certainly help in the tougher games.

Some highlights of the game though would undoubtedly be Jang's opening goal, where he tore through the defense unbelievably to score. True, the defense was not that strong, but the way he controlled the ball showed the immaculate skill that has been instrumental in his rise to the top of the game. It was this stunning performance that continued through the game, earning him player of the match for round 6.

Not to go without mentioning also, were two major breakthroughs for the P-GS. Julian (I am still to find his last name...) got off the mark, scoring his first for the season, and D'Silva silenced his critics by scoring a double. There had been a lot of hype about Dave's performance leading up to this week, and questions of his worth on the pitch. He hit back at critics, claiming the reason for his slump was out of his control, and an anatomical problem rather than a mental one. In a bizarre twist of irony, both his goals came from his head, and replays show that this was due to an unexplainable lean forward; that experts say was almost a physical impossibility - and that no one could possibly have reacted to and acted upon in the time he did. Perhaps the extra weight he has been carrying in his nose, that he was so fiercely criticised for, was indeed a saving grace for the Scorers. Either way, D'Silva is back, and Julian is here, and fans are grateful. We will certainly need all the firepower we can get when facing the bigger teams.

Other notable performances were Kunz's performance in goals, showing his versatility in Michaelides' absence, keeping a clean sheet. Lam also played well, but had to be taken off for fear of being injured after a particularly fired-up Oblong took his legs out. Sticka too had to be taken off, but for different reasons. Sporting a new hairstyle, the 'David Beckham' of the Scorers was proving too much of a distraction for the girls on the opposition side, and so to make the game fairer, so they could concentrate, he was substituted.

Some very positive signs were taken away from this match, particularly the improvement in tactical play and teamwork. Fans were worried after the P-GS big win last week at the Deros, that they would get overconfident and lose this week - and the score line surely shows they are better than that.
